Jesus has many names: the Son of God, King of Kings, our Messiah and Shepherd. This summer's theme will focus on one name in particular - Jesus our Teacher. Although we read and study the Bible, do we hear what Jesus says? Do we understand what he tells us? The disciples ask Jesus: Who is my neighbor? How many times must we forgive? What is the kingdom of God like? These questions form the foundation of our summer theme, Wrapped in Mystery. Jesus tells us:

 

"This is why I speak to the crowds in parables: although they see, they don't really see; and although they hear, they don't really hear or understand" (Matthew 13:13)

 

Jesus answers questions with parables that can be difficult to understand and often require a patient mind and focused eye to decode. So why does he do it? Jesus rarely gives the simple answer so that we can listen and relate to what he teaches, and therefore better understand what he means.

This will be our task this summer - to investigate, examine, and deliberate on the various stories and parables of Jesus. Bring your best sleuthing skills to camp this summer to help us unwrap the mysteries spoken by our Teacher!
