This service honors a long-standing partnership between the Southwest California Synod and the Los Angeles Chapter of the African Descent Lutheran Association. Together, we give thanks for a shared witness rooted in justice, faith, and love. We are honored to welcome our guest preacher, The Rev. Lucille “CeCee” Mills, Secretary of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Elected in August 2025, Rev. Mills is the first African American to serve in this national office and the first TEEM candidate to hold the position. Her leadership reflects the ELCA’s commitment to raising up leaders who serve their communities with wisdom, courage, and faith. Our worship theme, “Bound by Faith, Called to Love,” echoes the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and reminds us that our faith in Jesus Christ grounds us, heals us, and sends us out to love our neighbors, the stranger, and even the enemy. We invite you to worship with clergy, congregations, and guests from across the Southwest California Synod as we reflect, pray, and recommit ourselves to God’s call to justice and love.
